chimeras of a new Vertigo

I learned to appreciate writer Mike Carey with its cycles of Lucifer. And Peter Gross was already at his side as an artist. Then the well-established duo has created around what is considered their best work, The Unwritten . When on the shelves of a bookstore I saw the just-published second volume (published by Planeta ), I remembered that I lost the first. Retrieving it was half a miracle, since the unavailability of this book was also the subject of many discussions that put to the gallows, the English publishing house (rather appropriately, in my opinion) and for this I must thank a very valuable cartoonist and friend of Turin (thanks, Danito ).

The Unwritten is a beautiful thing. A fresh and interesting reading with some original ideas and some not. The idea behind opening the doors to the course changes and plot twists. What's it about The Unwritten ?
Tailor Tommy is the protagonist of a series of fantasy novels that have become a cultural phenomenon. On the Internet, and conventions, fans come together to celebrate their magical stories in the hope that its creator died, Wilson Taylor, crops up from somewhere to write one last adventure. But there is an unexpected development of the plot: the true Tom Taylor, the son he abandoned Wilson, is now revered around the world as a literary legend incarnate. When his life begins to resemble more and more bizarre than that of Tommy, Tom is swept into a strange literary hell where power is the ability to tell how strong a spell. Who was
instead interested in a real review, Antonio Solis has put down a brief and concise white space here.

The thing I want to emphasize, however, is another. This new work of British writer seems to deserve all the applause and approval of its readers. Including myself. But in any case, once again, the second coming has not occurred.

Let me explain.

Readers fans line Vertigo (Italians and Americans alike) have been used over the years a series of readings of a certain quality. But above all the fact that sooner or later the miracle could be repeated. In short, a new Sandman can arise from nothing and create new confusion. Since then water has passed under the bridge.
Yesterday Neil Gaiman's Sandman was in good company. There was the Shade The Changing Man of Peter Milligan and Chris Bachalo ,

's Jamie Delano's Hellblazer ,

of the Swamp Thing Alan Moore .

Then we switched to Preacher di Garth Ennis e Steve Dillon ,

up to the most recent Y: The Last Man of Brian Vaughan,

Lucifer at the same Mike Carey,

to Losers of Andy Diggle and Jock ,

to Bill Willingham's Fables

or the Scalped you Jason Aaron.

of stuff in fact there was (and I have mentioned several titles). And all really great stuff. And if not all, at least most. But after Sandman, as I said before, the players are still waiting for a new epiphany.

I have bad news for them: the new epiphany will not come. Why are not there more time because this is done. It is very likely the same Gaiman would not be able to repeat that memorable event, acclaimed by critics and audiences, which was his Sandman. The Lord of Dreams came out when there was no need. So just as I think that probably if Preacher was published today for the first time, would have more success than which has already had 15 years ago.

Stop and then look for the chimeras. Times have changed.

PS: A small reflection off the field. What then should Vertigo as a model for a certain kind of comic I do not do in Italy. I'm not saying that lack the courage, but his head. All right that every country has its own mechanics, and his dynamic storytelling. But every time, no exit from your small apartment?
