In recent years the scene Genoese got more of a reality to our scene, and The Big White Rabbit, a project born from the mind and pen of Max Sobrero, is another name to pin coming from Liguria. A single-project and live becomes a quartet with the entrance of former members of famous names of the indie scene as Genoese Cut Of Mica, Megadeth, White Ash and Temple of Deimos, for a debut, as rightly read the official notes , has as its most obvious influences, Nick Cave, Pixies, Gun Club and Tom Waits, but in our opinion is a lot closer to the atmosphere of the fundamental Leonard Cohen second phase of his career, including at voice (shades of the age except, of course), but stripped of the gospel inflections and a burst of very strong più elettrico. E proprio quando Simone Salvatori s'impone come crooner di successo in modo trasversale, la voglia di riscoprire certe tradizioni cantautorali inizia a prendere piede nello Stivale, anche se va dato atto al 'grande coniglio bianco' di aver scelto un approccio ben diverso da quello che ha fatto le fortune di Spiritual Front. L'opera, racchiusa in un pregiato digipack, si apre in modo emblematico: "The Future" non reca soltanto il medesimo titolo di uno dei singoli di maggior successo di Cohen, ma si rifà direttamente sia per impostazione vocale che per le sonorità al mostro sacro canadese, evidenziando comunque le buone capacità di scrittura e di arrangiamento di Max, credibile anche senza il contorno di sabbia, sole cocente, rattlesnakes, cactus, Ford Mustang, sweat and everything else from the imaginary road movie on the legendary Route 66. And that is precisely the point: Max could be simplistically labeled as one that "does the American wilt" because the Ligurian scenario is undoubtedly the antithesis of the places that inspired his tutelary deities, but they have learned more a lesson, arriving ready for awaited debut with a varied songwriting, solid and dependable. Certainly it is difficult to separate "Slaughterhouse" from its obvious influences, and the ghost of Cohen strongly lingers on the various "When The Day I Died," "Into The River", etc.., But the work (which among other things is a concept wounds that each of us porta dentro di sé) mette sul piatto molte cose interessanti, a partire dall'istrionica e cadenzata "Mary + Paul", passando per le introspezioni più intime di "And I Saw Regina Paint The Sky" e "The Superhero", per una "Devil's Smile" energica e calda che echeggia i Rolling Stones o per la ritmata e sporca "Another Damn Summer", fino alla mesta ballad conclusiva "Born Bad". Tutte canzoni ben congegnate, arrangiate e suonate, magari inadatte alle serate sulle spiagge delle Cinque Terre, ma capaci di sorprendere chi riesce a calarsi nell'immaginario giusto a prescindere dallo scenario.
